Leopard

Woot!

I've finally got Leopard and installed it - although the scene at Regent Street was a little, er, intense. London Underground shut Oxford Circus because the platforms were 'overcrowded' - no comment on whether they were overcrowded with nerds getting off the trains, or folks trying to get away from Regent St!

You've got to make your own kind of music

For the best part of 3 years, I've used RapidWeaver. I live and breath (somewhat unhealthily perhaps) it and today I'm finally able to reveal why I've been missing in action for a while: today is my first day as a full time employee at Realmac Software. I've left the music behind, and very tragically the great city of Manchester too, however after a far-from-dull few weeks, I've bitten the bullet / swallowed the pill / signed on the dotted line and will be working at Realmac in Brighton full-time as of Monday 22nd October. I firmly believe that 'you've got to make your own kind of music' and Realmac has offered me the opportunity to do just that.

Swansong

So what does this mean? The answer is, actually, nothing. Well. Not for anyone who follows what I publish online! The terms of my contract for TUAW & DLS mean that I can still write (but I'm avoiding Realmac related items of course). I'll be here (hell, I'm in the middle of a re-design for this baby) and many, many other places too (hint), so enjoy. If you're heading to London for this week's MacLive Expo, you'll find me around the Expo (Thursday) as I cover it for TUAW, or find me on the Realmac booth (#834) on Friday and Saturday. Please do come and say 'Hello'.

There's a fair few thank yous in order. I've had the good fortune to have so many people offer me support and advice over the past few weeks, and without that, I'd be a wreck. I'm not going to name names here - you know who you all are. All I can say is a most since and heart-felt thank you. Seriously.

You've got to make your own kind of music,
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music,
even if nobody else sings along.

Flickr Meet

ItsaiPhone!

There's so little to say about Sunday's awesome Flickr Meet. Other than the Mike Franklin iPhone stole the show. Check out the photos from Flickr Meet VIII (or IX).

Back in the World

The Bridge

Six weeks ago (boy doesn't time fly) I was jetting off to warmer climates for a much needed vacation to California, and what a good holiday it was: San Francisco and San Diego in one package. Of course, I could simply encourage you to head over to Flickr and enjoy the photos, but alas that would be only part of the story. We had a truly awesome time visiting numerous places, and there's a few recommendations that I thought I'd share.

Restaurants
If you dislike Italian food you'll hate these recommedations. We ate at three fantastic Italian restaurants.
1. Prego (San Diego)
2. Trattoria Acqua (La Jolla, San Diego) - As recommended by Mike Franklin.
3. Bonarda (Burlingame)
All 3 get a massive thumbs-up from me.

1 Infinite Loop

Places to Visit
1. Apple Campus (Cupertino). One for the nerds, but if you're an Apple fan, it's the place to go - and the only place you can buy official Apple-branded merchandise.
2. Marin Headlands (San Francisco). For fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge (amid the mist) you can't beat it. The shot at the top of this post was taken there (10-20mm Sigma Lens recommended ;-) )
3. USS Midway (San Diego). Aircraft carriers are fascinating, and Midway was the ship that recovered Apollo missions from the drink and saw action in Desert Storm. It's now moored downtown in San Diego.
4. San Diego Zoo. Great for testing out a 70-300mm lens.

On top of all that, I met up with John from Loghound.com, bought myself a new iPod nano, and plenty more. It's good to be back, but it was a fantastic time away.
