That Logo

The new Olympic logo for London 2012. Univerally hated (almost) and public healthrisk. The more I look at it, the more I loath it.

The London 2012 Logo. Apparently.

Quite how they spend £400,000 coming up with it, I frankly have no idea. Then to create a video that has caused epileptic fits? No wonder Ken Livingstone has been quoted as saying:

"I wouldn't pay him a penny for having made such a catastrophic mistake....Who would go into a firm like that again and ask them to do that work. This is a pretty basic thing."

I've been trying to think of what the logo reminds me of. And the closest I can think of is some Communist Soviet-Bloc event designed to imitate the olympics. It's the sort of thing you'd expect to see spray painted on the East German side of the Berlin wall, not trying to promote a world class sporting event. The BBC has got a series of reader-submitted logos too, which are well worth a look. I was all in favour of the Olympics coming to London. But I can't help but feel I'll be jetting off shortly before the games start to avoid being embarrassed. Even Fake Steve talks of how (Fake) Jonny Ive is embarrassed to be British. Talk of the universal thumbs down.

As Nathan points out: Chicago 2016. That's how to to an Olympic logo.

Learn Norwegian

Appelsin Juice

Lars Ivar, Flickr-r and RapidWeaver-r and HDR protegé of Mike Franklin, has posted some handy flashcards for all of you wanting to learn the fine Norwegian language. I'm just disappointed there's not one that tells you how to ask for 'One large beer and some prawn-cocktail crisps, please'. But then, I guess not many pre-school norwegians are likely to be learning that at all, never mind on flashcards :)

Inside Tehran

Too Bad - The folks at Google have removed said video.... Sorry!

A look inside Iran's capital by BBC reporter Rageh Omaar, made available by the BBC on Google Video. It's 1h29m30s long, but so very very worth watching regardless of any political orientation. Truly fascinating.

RSS Lock 'n' Load: New Blog for you!

Not one of my own new blogs, I'm running just one (this one!). Flickr contact Mike Franklin has got a blog! I know, exciting. Head over here for the read. Mike's got a good insight into the bookmaking part of Aperture and more. I look forward to reading what else he's got in store! In other related blog news, I vaguely remembered that Nathan (Manchester based Flickr contact) promised a blog from January 1st. And I promptly forgot this until tonight (after having read the linkage on Mr Franklin's shiny new iHome). Check out Nathan's blog, but he's not published for a few weeks. Presumably as he's been nursing under-age hangovers. ;)

Web Frenzy at Threshers?!

Looks like this 40% off wine and champagne at Threshers wasn't meant to made available to everyone! Too bad it is I guess. Get it here! I've got a backup if it's taken offline for some mysterious reason ;)

Citizen Journalist!

Today I received a rather interesting Flickr-mail, from someone wishing to use a photo or two of mine in a news story on NowPublic.com (FWIW I've never heard of the site either!). Seems that someone took a shine to the iKaraoke that I snapped at Apple Expo Paris, and in fact chatted to Griffin Technology about on Northern Bytes. If I could choose which photos were used in any news story, these wouldn't be the two, but thanks for choosing them NowPublic!

Er, Right

Some of you know that I work in a Cafe when not studying - geeks need money! However the other week, as I spent my time replenishing the crisps, I noticed a very worrying thing.
Every single pack of Walkers crisps stocked at the cafe is 'Suitable for Vegetarians'. Even the Roast Chicken, Roast Steak and more. Bizarre. It actually put me off buying any myself. Hence why I'm sat here typing in the bar with a pack of Sensations (Roasted Chicken, Lemon and Thyme) that are most certainly not suitable for vegetarians!
